Well loved since 1998, The Night Noodle Markets is a food festival which celebrates Asian food in an outdoor hawker-style setting. After two years of postponements, the event was set to relaunch against the backdrop of Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane’s vibrant city lights.

As the dedicated designer, I led a festival identity refresh that conveyed the NNMs’ joy of connecting people through a shared love for Asian food, and intent to return bolder, bigger and better. 

Featuring flashy colours and striking visuals, the rebrand evokes the neon lights of Asian cities like Hong Kong and Tokyo. Shifting the brand from a navy to black background, and introducing bright, sherbert colours allowed the identity to align more with the NNMs’ context of being a night festival in the city. With cute linework illustrations, the look and feel reflects the youthful personality and vibrant busyness of the NNMs. A lattice design, common in many
East Asian cultures, is used throughout to structure information in a creative.
