BT-A
2019
1. ‘In a curious world of systems’
BT-A is an arbitrary, almost nonsensical system of bread tags. Like a neglected bread tag, the countless systems users enter seem mundane and insignificant. BT-A reduces the identities of its participants to bread tags. Through juxtaposing the bodily and the edible, BT-A is an uneasy reminder of how these overlooked systems are more intimately connected to
us than they may seem.
How it works
The date on a bread tag is matched to a user’s birth date. The string of numbers and letters on the bread tag becomes their ‘identification number’. The user is led through a biometric process which involves completing an identification form and recording their fingerprint.
A strand of their hair is wrapped around the bread tag and with the form and tag assembled together—the user has officially entered the system. (Names are redacted for privacy reasons)
