In a curious world of systems lived Hansel and Gretel. As they wandered through this world a trail of bread crumbs traced their journey. It faded into the land, and was immediately collected by the hungry creatures who resided there. Sensing the presence of these creatures, the children were afraid. They knew they were being watched—but they didn’t know who was watching them or when! Nevertheless, they pushed on, deeper and deeper into the dark and mysterious corners of this world. Eventually, Hansel and Gretel found themselves before a marvellous structure. Its facade was impressive—almost expanseless, and adorned with the most enticing features. Its surfaces reflected their image in the most flattering way and they found it difficult to look away. Though the sight seemed too good to be true, its surface wrote:
WELCOME. FREE ENTRY FOR ALL.
GUESTS AND USERS ARE SAFE AND SECURE HERE.
The temptation to have a taste of it was irresistible.
Little did they know, that hidden inside the structure was a greedy ruler. Friendly and generous as it seemed, the invitation masked the ruler’s evil intent—to gobble up their juicy content! Blissfully unaware, the children entered, having never even peeped through the windows. They shrugged away any suspicions as the structure’s sweet allure prevented them from coming to their senses. As time passed, they understood this dark reality to be true. However, they were beyond the point of caring. What mattered more, was feasting upon what the structure offered.
Hansel and Gretel became the consumers and the consumed.
